Building Your Confidence Using The Worst Case Scenario

If you've ever struggled with your feelings of self-confidence and self-worth or been too scared and intimidated to go after your dreams, you know that this is an important topic. We all know that increasing our self-confidence will make us feel better ourselves and helps us move forward in life and reach our goals. But like anything that involves human growth and self-improvement, though, it's not always easy and requires stepping out of your comfort zone.

So, where should you start? Glad you asked!

This is one of my favorite confidence hacks and something I regularly use that never fails to bring things back in perspective and makes me take action. It's simple but mighty.

Ready?!

Ask yourself: "What's The Worst That Could Happen and regain my self-confidence?"

Sit down and put some thought into this. Imagine everything and anything that could go wrong. It may seem counterproductive at first, but trust me, there's a method to the madness.

Laying it all out forces you to face the worst possible outcome and helps you realize that the worst result isn't all that bad and (more than likely) something you can live with. Just as important is that you discover that this "horrible" outcome you've created in your mind isn't even likely to happen.

Even if everything doesn't go perfect, the chances are that you'll get something out of taking the risk to do something. This realization alone will give you a boost of confidence, or at least the energy and desire to do something.

And just in case you're wondering why imagining the worst possible outcome is such a reasonable confidence and courage strategy.

Here's why...

We're More Scared of the Unknown and always go to the worst case scenario.

This is why this strategy works so well! By thinking about and imagining the worst possible outcome, we take away the unknown element (catch that). When that happens, things suddenly don't look nearly as bad anymore because we know what we're facing and proactively mitigate or plan against any adverse outcomes.

We do this all the time when something terrible or unexpected does happen...So why not tap into the same idea to gain the courage to "try it anyway"?

So now that you've gotten a "sneak peek" into one of my confidence hacks, I challenge you to pay attention to your thoughts, especially if/when you're embarking on something new.

And every time you find yourself trying to talk yourself out of doing something because of an undefined fear, or when you're reluctant to do something, ask yourself, "what's the worst that could happen"... and then take some action or try something new!
