How can leaders develop organizational cultures that promote inclusion and belonging? As a leader, it's important for you not only to make sure that your organization has a culture where everyone feels included and part of the team; but also for you as an individual leader within that organization!

Joining us this week for the #LeadHership Reloaded series is Sara Brooks. Sara is a Certified Family Life Educator and a catalyst for change in the communities she serves. Currently employed at Stanford University, as a Learning and Development Manager for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, her main role is to be a resource to the university and help operationalize DEIB at the institutional level.

Key Takeaways:
  • The evolution of DEI and the possibilities that lay ahead for companies.
  • How women can support each other and empower each other through our differences instead of letting them divide us.
  • How and why organizations have failed in their attempts to integrate DEI-focused processes in their organizations following the outpouring of diversity funding commitments in 2020.

What You Will Learn in This Episode:
  • [01:37] Sara’s career journey, what decisions she had that has led her leading within the DEIB space.
  • [07:28] How Sara leverages her experience and skills to drive change with DEI initiatives in both academia and the tech industry.
  • [14:42] What challenges and gaps still exist within organizations and society as a whole, and how can you practice equity in that space?
  • [28:05] How to work with people of different cultures and create a safe space with each other?
  • [43:45] Sara’s message to her younger self and the impact she wanted to create into this world, and her book recommendation has been truly pivotal for her growth, development, and professional career.
